Stone Creek™ Griffith’s Gnat

The Stone Creek™ Griffith’s Gnat is one of the most effective and versatile dry fly patterns ever created for imitating midges and other tiny adult insects. Originally designed by George Griffith, this classic fly has become a staple in trout boxes everywhere thanks to its simple design, realistic profile, and ability to consistently fool selective fish.

Its buggy appearance closely resembles individual midges as well as midge clusters, making it exceptionally effective during midge hatches when trout are focused on small insects drifting on the surface. The Griffith’s Gnat rides low in the film, creating a natural presentation that trout readily accept in calm water and technical fishing situations.

A true year-round producer, this pattern excels on tailwaters, spring creeks, rivers, lakes, and ponds. It is particularly productive during colder months when midge activity often provides trout with a primary food source.
